(AFCON) qualifier scheduled for 5 p.m. today, November 18.

For Rwanda, this match is vital as they aim to secure a spot in next year’s AFCON tournament. Bizimana, while acknowledging the quality of Nigeria’s squad, which includes players plying their trade in top European leagues, remains optimistic about Rwanda’s chances.

“Although Nigeria has star players, we believe we can still win. Our goal is to qualify for AFCON, and we are fully prepared to give our best,” Bizimana stated confidently during a press briefing in Uyo on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s interim head coach, Austin Eguavoen, is expected to rotate his squad, giving opportunities to players who have seen limited action during the qualifiers. With the Super Eagles having already secured their place at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, thanks to Libya’s recent win over Rwanda and their own strong performances, the pressure is off for the Nigerian team.

Eguavoen is likely to experiment with new players, including debutants and fringe squad members. First-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali will be absent due to the recent passing of his father, opening the door for Maduka Okoye to start in goal.

In defense, Eguavoen may rest key players like William Troost-Ekong or Calvin Bassey, allowing opportunities for newcomers such as Gabriel Osho and Victor Collins to step up. Osho, who recently made his debut, will be eager to impress, while Collins, yet to feature, will be hoping for a chance to showcase his talent.

In midfield, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s participation remains uncertain due to a minor injury, so Eguavoen may choose to give playing time to Alhassan Yusuf, Frank Onyeka, and Raphael Onyedika, with Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi possibly getting some much-needed rest.

Upfront, Victor Boniface and Sadiq Umar are set to lead the attack. Boniface, though consistent, is yet to score for Nigeria and will look to seize this pressure-free game to break his duck. Sadiq, recovering from an injury, will hope this match provides the perfect opportunity to regain his form and make a statement.
