Seun Kuti Explains Why Parents Should Be The ‘Stress’ In Their Children’s Lives

Popular Nigerian afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, has shared his unconventional yet humorous approach to parenting, revealing why he believes parents should be the primary source of “stress” in their children’s lives.

According to Ireporter Online, the outspoken musician shared this perspective during an interview with NotJustOk Originals on YouTube, where he discussed his parenting style and the joy he finds in spending time with his daughter.

Seun Kuti stated that he deliberately “stresses” his daughter at home to ensure she does not have the opportunity to stress him in return. He emphasized that many parents experience pressure from their children because they fail to set the tone of authority and playful discipline early on.

“Most parents don’t realize that the reason their kids stress them is because they don’t stress the kids first,” he explained. “These children think that because they’re small, they can get away with anything. I like to reverse that mindset — be the stress in your child’s life. That’s my favorite thing to do at home, to make her so busy that she has no time to stress me.”

The singer also likened his time on stage to the same sense of control and fulfillment he feels at home, jokingly describing himself as a “stresser” both in his family life and musical performances.

“Other than being at home, I love being on stage. It’s another place where I have full control — stressing a bunch of people. I take that energy from the house to the stage. That’s me, stresser,” he said with a laugh.
