Speaking to journalists, Sani emphasized that despite his cautionary remarks, his concerns were dismissed, leading to the current financial challenges plaguing Kaduna.

“The hour of reckoning has come for every citizen of the state,” Sani declared, highlighting the consequences of ignoring his warnings regarding the loan.

Reflecting on his past advocacy, Sani drew parallels to biblical figures who forewarned of impending disasters but were disregarded by their contemporaries. He expressed regret over the state’s predicament, attributing it to the failure to heed his advice.

Sani reiterated how he faced criticism for opposing the loan, emphasizing that promises of prosperity were made, but the reality has proven otherwise.

He pointed out the irony of borrowing $350 million when the exchange rate was more favorable, only to face the challenge of repayment amid a weaker currency value.

The former senator’s remarks come in the wake of Governor Uba Sani’s recent alarm over Kaduna’s ballooning debt profile, signaling a mounting crisis exacerbated by the loan’s repercussions.

In 2018, Sani, along with other senators, opposed El-Rufai’s loan bid, but subsequent political developments saw proponents of the loan securing victory, paving the way for its approval.
