Nigerian Government Clarifies Delay In Port Harcourt-Aba Rail Project

Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, disclosed this to journalists in Rivers State during an inspection of the project, highlighting ongoing efforts to address the financial challenges hindering project implementation.
Alkali clarified that the delay stemmed from financial issues related to the project’s award, which the current administration inherited from the previous government. He emphasized the necessity of resolving financing matters before commencing such a significant infrastructure undertaking.
The minister underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring all financial arrangements are in place before initiating the project, assuring Nigerians that once the financial aspect is addressed, the project will promptly proceed.
Additionally, Alkali directed the contractor to integrate the Port Harcourt rail with both the Port Harcourt and Onne ports, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive connectivity in the project’s execution.
The statement from the Ministry of Transportation highlights the government’s proactive approach to resolving financial obstacles and underscores its dedication to advancing critical infrastructure projects for the nation’s development.
