The ill-fated aircraft, a Cessna Skyhawk 172M, was on a scenic flight, having taken off from Maribor Airport at 11:20 a.m., according to Robert Roudi of the Murska Sobota Police Department.

Reports suggest the victims included two men, aged 30 and 33, from Beltinci, and a woman from the Štajerska region. The flight was reportedly a birthday gift for one of the passengers, with the planned route being a round trip from Maribor to Lendava.

Investigators are still working to confirm the exact number of individuals on board and to identify them. A police spokesperson confirmed that the crash site is still being examined, and identities will be confirmed once the investigation is complete.

The plane, owned by the Maribor Aviation Centre, had taken off in clear conditions but encountered dense fog as it reached the Prekmurje region, which is believed to have contributed to the tragic accident. All three individuals on board have been confirmed dead.
