Plans are underway for the establishment of joint security agency patrols, involving the military, police, Amotekun, vigilantes, and local hunters, among others.

Once considered tranquil, the region has become a hotspot for criminal activities, prompting urgent measures to safeguard the lives of its residents. Recent incidents, including the assassinations of two Ekiti monarchs and the abduction of students and teachers, have heightened concerns about the escalating security threat.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has intensified security efforts, providing vehicles and communication gadgets to security agencies. The state government aims to cover all parts of the state and enhance proactive measures to curb kidnapping incidents.

In a collaborative move, the Ogun State government is deploying drones and specialized equipment for monitoring and intelligence gathering. The state is leveraging global best practices to stay ahead of criminals who are increasingly using technology for illicit activities. Joint patrols with other states in the region are also being planned.

Ekiti State is exploring the possibility of arming Amotekun, the regional security force, to effectively combat crime. Governor Olayinka Oyebode emphasizes the need for Amotekun to carry arms for real effectiveness in addressing security challenges. Plans include increased recruitment and collaboration with local authorities.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 11, Benjamin Ayeni, highlighted the strategic measures being implemented at the zonal level to counter the surge in crime. Each state within the zone has established anti-kidnapping teams, technical intelligent response units, and other measures to handle security situations. Joint Task Forces involving civilians, Amotekun personnel, vigilantes, and local hunters are also being formed to monitor and address security issues within the region.
