Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has revealed that he is currently focused on helping his club, Chippa United, achieve its objectives rather than prioritising a return to Nigeria’s starting lineup.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper recently returned to the South African club after leaving in February and spending several months without competitive football. Since his return, Nwabali has quickly regained his place between the posts and produced an impressive performance in his first league appearance, keeping a clean sheet and making six saves to earn the Man of the Match award.

Speaking about his return, Nwabali described Chippa United as a familiar environment and expressed his determination to contribute to the club’s success throughout the season.

According to Ireporter Online, the goalkeeper said his immediate priority is to help Chippa United collect points rather than worry about reclaiming Nigeria’s number one position.

Nwabali explained that he is leaving decisions concerning the national team to the Super Eagles coaching staff, insisting that his attention remains firmly on his club responsibilities.

The goalkeeper’s return to Chippa United has generated interest among Nigerian football supporters, particularly with Nigeria preparing for upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures.

Nwabali became a prominent figure for the Super Eagles during the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, where he saved two penalties during Nigeria’s semi-final shootout victory over South Africa.

He also impressed at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, saving penalties from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush during Nigeria’s encounter with Egypt and earning the Man of the Match award.

However, with Maduka Okoye and Arthur Okonkwo having featured for Nigeria during his absence, Nwabali appears content to concentrate on rebuilding his form at club level before considering a return to the national team.
