The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that Uber, Bolt and other e-hailing platforms have not been banned from operating at airports across the country.

According to Ireporter Online, the authority made the clarification in a statement issued by its management on Thursday following reports suggesting that e-hailing services had been restricted at some airports under its control.

FAAN explained that its position was not aimed at preventing passengers from choosing their preferred means of transportation or stopping e-hailing companies from providing services to air travellers.

Rather, the authority said its focus was on ensuring that commercial transportation providers operating within airport premises comply with established rules designed to promote security, passenger safety and efficient airport operations.

FAAN stressed that e-hailing services remain an important part of transportation for air travellers and said the authority had no intention of undermining their role.

The agency, however, maintained that transport services operating within airport facilities must be properly identifiable, accountable and integrated into the airports’ operational and security systems.

FAAN also clarified the role of ACHRAMS, stressing that the platform is not an e-hailing application and was not created to compete with Uber, Bolt or other existing e-hailing companies.

The authority said the clarification was necessary to address concerns among passengers and operators following reports of an alleged ban.

FAAN reiterated that its objective is to maintain a safe, secure and well-coordinated transportation system within Nigerian airports while allowing passengers to continue enjoying convenient mobility options.
