The Action Alliance presidential candidate, Adekunle Omo-Aje, has urged Nigeria’s security agencies to maintain strict neutrality and professionalism during the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, Omo-Aje made the call after attending the National Peace Accord ceremony held at the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Tuesday.

The presidential candidate stressed that security personnel must protect voters, political candidates and other citizens without being influenced by political considerations.

“Our security agencies must protect lives and property before, during, and after the elections. They must not be used to intimidate voters or favour any political party. Professionalism is key to credible elections,” he said.

Omo-Aje also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resist political pressure and provide equal opportunities for all participating parties.

He maintained that Nigerians would have greater confidence in the electoral process if state institutions remained impartial and ensured that every legitimate vote was properly counted.

“INEC must resist pressure and ensure that the votes of Nigerians count. The Commission should provide a level playing field for all parties, big or small,” he added.

The Action Alliance candidate further urged politicians to make the 2027 election campaigns about practical solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians rather than inflammatory statements, personal attacks and divisive rhetoric.

He described the National Peace Accord as an important step towards encouraging political parties and candidates to embrace peaceful and issue-based campaigns ahead of the elections.

The accord was organised by the National Peace Committee, led by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, in partnership with the Kukah Centre.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, signed the accord, while APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda also signed on behalf of the ruling party.

Representatives of several other political parties and presidential candidates equally participated in the exercise. However, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, was absent from the ceremony.

Omo-Aje said the commitment of political actors and government institutions to peaceful and credible elections would be crucial to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy ahead of 2027.
