2027: Segun Sowunmi Backs Tinubu, Declares Total Support

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Sowunmi, has publicly declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid to secure a second term in office in the 2027 presidential election.

Sowunmi made his position known on Wednesday during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, where he explained his reasons for backing the President despite remaining a member of the opposition PDP.

According to Ireporter Online, Sowunmi stressed that his support for Tinubu should not be interpreted as an indication that he has left the PDP.

The former spokesperson to ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar argued that Nigeria’s democratic system should reflect the country’s unique political realities rather than simply copying models from other nations.

During the television programme, Sowunmi also broke into a song in praise of President Tinubu, further demonstrating his support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.

He maintained that his decision to support Tinubu was based on personal conviction and not because he had received money or any other form of inducement.

Sowunmi’s declaration comes amid increasing political realignments and discussions among politicians and political groups ahead of the 2027 general elections.
