Amid the tense situation, a 19-year-old SCSU student, identified as Rolando J. Ifill, was apprehended in connection with the gunfire inside an academic building. Ifill now faces charges of carrying a firearm on school property, with additional charges pending as the investigation unfolds.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, thanks to the prompt intervention of campus police, who swiftly apprehended Ifill after a foot chase.

Earlier in the day, students received alarming text messages urging them to “shelter in place” as authorities scrambled to assess the situation. The lockdown was initiated after a student from SCSU sought refuge at Claflin University’s dining hall, highlighting the urgency and gravity of the situation.

While the immediate threat has been neutralized, an ongoing investigation led by campus police and the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division seeks to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensuring the safety and security of all students and faculty.
