The Los Angeles police department detained the 48-year-old, also known as Michael Render, citing involvement in a physical altercation within the event venue on Sunday.
Render, who swiftly bounced back after the incident, emphasized resilience and celebration during his appearance on an Atlanta-based radio show. “We hit a speed bump and then we head back to the party, man,” he asserted, underlining the victorious spirit despite the setback.
Attributing the altercation to “overzealous security,” the rapper highlighted the incident’s context, suggesting an overreaction.
Video footage captured Render being escorted out by police officers from the Crypto.com arena before the prime-time Grammys commenced.
However, prior to the televised portion, Killer Mike triumphed, clinching all three categories for which he was nominated. His track “Scientists & Engineers,” featuring prominent artists like André 3000 and Future, secured awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance, while his album “Michael” snagged the title for Best Rap Album.
Addressing his remarkable achievement, Killer Mike’s impassioned speech resonated with his commitment to perseverance and the realization of dreams. “You cannot tell me that you get too old, you can’t tell me it’s too late, you can’t tell me dreams don’t come true!” he exclaimed, echoing the triumph of an enduring spirit.
While this marks Render’s first solo Grammy win, his advocacy for black Americans, confronting issues like police brutality and systemic racism, remains steadfast, showcasing his enduring impact beyond the realm of music.
