Sule Lamido Declares Goodluck Jonathan PDP’s Best Hope for 2027 Presidency

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has identified ex-President Goodluck Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) strongest candidate for the 2027 presidential election, urging the party to actively pursue his return. Speaking on a national television program, Lamido emphasized Jonathan’s leadership experience, collaborative approach, and political acumen as key assets for the PDP.

Lamido highlighted that Jonathan remains unmatched within the PDP’s southern ranks, asserting that the former president’s proven governance record and ability to work with diverse political interests position him as the best choice. “He is their best bet. Anyone the PDP puts forward, Nigerians will support,” Lamido said.

The former governor’s remarks come amid ongoing speculation about Jonathan’s potential re-entry into the PDP presidential race. While welcoming the idea, Lamido acknowledged that the party has neither officially endorsed Jonathan nor begun formal efforts to secure his candidacy.

“If he decides to join the PDP, it will make the 2027 race very interesting and competitive,” Lamido noted, adding, “I don’t see a better alternative than Jonathan if he comes to the PDP.”
