Suspected Herdsmen Kill 20 In Ondo Farm Settlements

At least 20 people have been killed in Ondo State, following an attack on four farm settlements in the Akure North Local Government Area…….READ MORE

The assault occurred over the weekend, with the attackers believed to be armed herders. The targeted areas—Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camps—were struck at midnight, with the assailants opening fire indiscriminately.

Local sources confirmed that 14 bodies had been retrieved in the past two days, and some residents are still unaccounted for. The Regent of Ademekun Camp, Adelowo Adekemisola, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of 14 farmers in the area. The attackers reportedly entered the communities from the border with Edo State.

The Ondo State Police have confirmed the incident, with the Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, stating that security forces have launched efforts to capture the attackers and enhance safety in the region.

However, as of the latest reports, the Ondo State Government has not issued an official statement on the tragic event. This incident is part of a troubling trend of attacks on farmers across Nigeria, which have escalated food insecurity and inflation. Similar attacks were reported in Borno earlier this year, contributing to concerns over the growing violence in farming communities.
