Suspected Thugs Attack Peter Obi’s Convoy, Sparks Tension
Tension reportedly erupted in Benue State on Tuesday after suspected thugs allegedly barricaded a road being used by the convoy of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi.
According to Ireporter Online, Obi’s media aide, Esther Umoh, raised the alarm in a post on X after the former Anambra State governor and members of his entourage arrived in the state.
Umoh alleged that the incident occurred along Boko Road, near the Nigerian Air Force Base, claiming that the blockade was intended to prevent Obi’s convoy from gaining access to the area.
She accompanied her claim with a video purportedly showing the road obstruction.
In a separate video shared by the media aide, several individuals were seen running behind vehicles believed to be part of Obi’s convoy.
Umoh alleged that the individuals were attempting to attack members of the entourage as the convoy moved through the area.
“We have just arrived in Benue State, where alleged sponsored thugs have blocked Boko Road by the Air Force Base, attempting to prevent Peter Obi from gaining access into the state,” she stated.
The allegations have raised concerns over the safety of political candidates and their supporters as activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify.
Obi, who previously contested the 2023 presidential election, is seeking the presidency again in 2027 under the NDC and is expected to face President Bola Tinubu and other political contenders.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no independent confirmation of the alleged attack or the identities and motives of those involved.
