Osimhen Faces Injury Layoff, Eyes October Comeback For Galatasaray

Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is expected to return to action in October after suffering an adductor muscle injury that is set to rule him out of three matches.

According to Ireporter Online, the Super Eagles forward sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir on Friday.

Osimhen opened the scoring with a powerful effort into the top corner before being substituted in the 33rd minute, with Barış Alper Yılmaz taking his place.

Subsequent medical examinations at Acıbadem Hospital revealed a moderate-to-advanced strain involving bleeding in the 27-year-old’s right adductor muscle.

Galatasaray confirmed the diagnosis in an official statement, noting that the injury affects the groin area and that midfielder Mario Lemina had also suffered a similar problem.

The setback is expected to keep Osimhen out of Galatasaray’s Champions League encounter with Sporting Lisbon as well as Super Lig fixtures against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.

The Nigerian striker could make his comeback against Kasımpaşa in the Turkish Cup on October 11, before potentially featuring against Barcelona in the Champions League two days later.

The injury is also a concern for Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle, with Nigeria preparing for its opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month.

Osimhen had made an impressive start to the new campaign before the setback, recording six goals and two assists in four appearances for Galatasaray.

His absence will therefore leave Galatasaray without one of its key attacking players across three competitions while the club awaits his recovery.
