The strike action, which was set to begin on April 2, was intended to address unresolved grievances with subcontractors including Reime Group, Allstream Energy Solutions Ltd., Uppercrest Ltd., Tyllium Nigeria Ltd., and Specific Tools and Techniques Ltd.
Following a crucial meeting at the union’s secretariat, key agreements were reached, leading to the suspension of the industrial action. The agreements include the recognition of employees’ rights to association, the establishment of health facilities aligned with the National Health Insurance Scheme, and other welfare provisions.
PTECSSAN’s initial demands centered on the acknowledgment of fundamental workers’ rights, recognition of the union as the legitimate negotiating body, timely remittance of membership dues, regularization of employment, adherence to pension and health insurance regulations, and negotiations for a collective bargaining agreement.
The suspension of the strike signifies progress in addressing the concerns of telecommunications staff, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and negotiation in resolving industrial disputes and maintaining stability in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.
