Terror In Rivers: Cultists Kill Two As Community Pleads For Police Intervention

The cultists, who renewed hostilities in the Edeoha community and neighboring areas, had already killed four individuals on Sunday, spreading fear throughout the region.

The area is notorious for cult-related violence and was previously the site of the murder of the Divisional Police Officer of Ahoada Police, Bako Anghashim.

Eyewitnesses reported that the heavily armed youths resumed their reign of terror early yesterday morning, killing two people at Odiokwu junction in Ula-Ehuda, Igbu Akoh Kingdom, Ahoada East LGA.

Hector Ekakita, the Public Relations Officer of Igbu-Akoh Kingdom, confirmed the incident. He shared that residents had observed suspicious movements of individuals dressed in coveralls and military attire on Sunday night. The following morning, they discovered the bullet-riddled bodies of two young men.

Ekakita expressed deep concern over the renewed violence, which came just hours after five people were killed in Edeoha. He urged the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha, to act swiftly and bolster security in the area as remnants of cult groups had once again infiltrated the communities.

“At Odiokwu junction, we found two able-bodied youths dead, riddled with bullets. This happened just 24 hours after the killings at Edeoha,” Ekakita said. “We thought the insecurity in our community was over, but it seems the remnants of these groups have resurfaced to disturb our peace.”

He also appealed to the youth to lay down their arms and restore peace to the community, which is now on edge, with many residents fleeing in fear.

Meanwhile, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, has yet to confirm the latest killings.
