This Year Could Be Mine” — Mbappé Speaks On Ballon d’Or Chances
Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé believes he has a strong chance of winning the Ballon d’Or this year after another outstanding campaign for club and country.
The France captain, 27, scored 42 goals in 44 appearances for Real Madrid last season, although the Spanish giants ended the campaign without a major trophy.
Mbappé also enjoyed a remarkable World Cup campaign, claiming the Golden Boot after scoring 10 goals. His haul took his career total at the tournament to 22, a record, although France eventually finished fourth.
According to Ireporter Online, Mbappé believes his performances have strengthened his claim for the prestigious individual award, which is scheduled to be presented on October 26.
“I think when you play for Real Madrid, the best club in the world, people associate you with this award,” Mbappé said.
The forward acknowledged that several factors would influence the outcome, noting that voters would ultimately make their decisions based on their individual assessments.
“There are many people who speak about the Ballon d’Or and me. Of course I’ve made history in the most important competition. Maybe it’s a good year for this, but people can vote according to what they think,” he added.
Mbappé, who finished third in the Ballon d’Or rankings in 2023 while playing for Paris Saint-Germain, also maintained his confidence in his ability.
“I always think I’m the best [player in the world], but everyone has their own opinion,” he said.
He further admitted that this year could represent a favourable opportunity to claim the award, while recognising that the final decision rests with the journalists who cast their votes.
Despite Mbappé’s confidence, he faces strong competition in the race. England captain Harry Kane is reportedly among the leading contenders after scoring 61 goals in 51 appearances for Bayern Munich last season and helping the German club secure a domestic double.
Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is also considered a major contender following his success with the Spanish club and national team, while midfielder Rodri is another player rated highly in the race.
The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced at the October 26 ceremony.
