The arrests took place on Tuesday during a coordinated monitoring operation by the Commissioner of Police’s team. Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the details in a statement issued in Port Harcourt.

Iringe-Koko noted that the officers’ misconduct was recorded on video, providing undeniable evidence of their actions. She condemned their behavior as unprofessional, particularly since they were not in uniform at the time.

The statement detailed, “The Rivers State Police Command arrested three officers during a monitoring patrol on October 29, 2024, under the Rumuokoro Flyover around 3 p.m. The officers—Inspector Sarah Anendei, Inspector Caroline Promise, and Inspector Christiana Jatau—were caught engaging in corrupt practices against innocent motorists. Notably, Inspectors Promise and Jatau were conducting themselves unprofessionally while out of uniform, violating police standards.”

During the immediate investigation, the officers were searched, and the money taken from motorists was recovered, demonstrating a prompt response to uphold ethical practices within the command.
