Three Individuals Detained In Connection With Delta Tragedy, Transferred To Army Headquarters In Asaba

Authorities have detained at least three individuals suspected of involvement in the recent fatal assault on members of the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Otuama, Delta State, resulting in the loss of 16 officers and soldiers’ lives.

The tragic incident has elicited widespread condemnation and calls for justice, prompting a resolute response from Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate.

Akpabio emphasized that those accountable for the grievous attack on the military personnel would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Simultaneously, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, engaged in discussions with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, Abuja, reassuring the President of the state’s proactive measures to manage tensions and prevent further incidents.

In light of these events, the House of Representatives urged the Armed Forces of Nigeria to initiate a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragic occurrence.

It is recalled that 16 Nigerian Army officers and soldiers were killed in the Okuama community in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State last week while on a peace mission at Okuoma community in Delta state.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported that among the deceased army personnel were the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, along with two majors, one captain, and twelve other members of the battalion.
