Families Mourn Land Grabber Violence Claims Lives Of Workers In Lagos

During a press briefing held on Tuesday in Lagos, the President of the organization, Tunji Balogun, asserted that the menace posed by land grabbers in the Ibeju-Lekki and Epe divisions of Lagos had reached intolerable levels.

Balogun accused a notorious land grabber, known as Ibile (real name withheld), of brazenly wreaking havoc in the area. He highlighted the immense suffering experienced by property owners, as well as artisans and laborers working on various sites, due to the relentless activities of this land grabber and his cohorts.

Expressing concern over the apparent impunity enjoyed by the land grabber and his associates, Balogun called for comprehensive criminal investigations by both federal and state governments, as well as security agencies, into the actions of the land grabber and any complicit state actors.

Highlighting recent tragic incidents, Balogun mentioned the burning of property belonging to Esther Otsabomhe and the fatal shooting of a middle-aged bricklayer named Sodiq Kolapo by the land grabbers. He warned that if left unchecked, the atrocities of land grabbers could escalate to terrorist-like acts in the future.

Adding to the discussion, Joke Kolapo, the widow of the slain bricklayer, shared her harrowing experience, detailing the hardships she and her children have faced since her husband’s untimely death. She recounted how her husband was attacked and killed at a construction site by land grabbers, leaving her as a single mother of three with no closure regarding her husband’s burial.

Kolapo appealed to the government to intervene and assist her and the affected community. The community, in a bid for urgent assistance, had previously sent a distress call to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Inspector General of Police.
