BREAKING: Akpabio, Oshiomhole, Uzodimma, 1,300 Others Named In INEC List
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the list of 1,303 candidates contesting the 109 senatorial seats across Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in the 2027 general elections.
According to reports, the list features candidates sponsored by 21 political parties seeking election into the Senate, the country’s upper legislative chamber.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) fielded 109 candidates, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presented 108 candidates. The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has 94 candidates on the list.
Other parties include the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) with 104 candidates, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 101, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 95, the Action Democratic Party (ADP) with 92 and the Action Peoples Party (APP) with 69.
The Labour Party (LP) has 68 candidates, Accord has 67, the National Rescue Movement (NRM) has 65, while the Young Progressive Party (YPP) has 60 candidates. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has 51, Action Alliance (AA) has 39, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has 33.
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has 32 candidates, while the Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA) and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have 27 candidates each. The African Action Congress (AAC) has 25, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has 21, while the Boot Party (BP) and Young Progressives (YP) have seven and four candidates respectively.
Several prominent political figures are among those listed by the electoral commission. They include Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Also listed are former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari, who served as Director-General of President Bola Tinubu’s Campaign Council; former Senate President Ahmed Lawan; former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC national leader Seriake Dickson; former Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Wamakko; and former Abia State Governor Orji Kalu.
The list also includes Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, as well as former Aviation Minister and former Anambra North senator Stella Oduah.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, a former senator representing Imo West and a member of the APC, also appears on the list. Uzodimma serves as Secretary of President Tinubu’s campaign organisation.
Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya are among other notable names contained in the senatorial candidates’ list.
The release of the list comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.
The governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on February 6, 2027.
