Security Surveillance Aircraft Is Another Scam” – APC Blasts Makinde Over Bandit Attack

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has accused Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration of misleading residents over the reported acquisition of two security surveillance aircraft following a fresh bandit attack in the state.

According to Ireporter Online, the APC made the allegation in reaction to an attack on an Operation Burst base along the Igbeti/Igboho road in Olorunsogo Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Suspected bandits reportedly invaded the security base in the early hours of Sunday and made away with items including a generator and a motorcycle.

Reacting to the incident, the APC Publicity Secretary in Oyo State, Wasiu Sadare, said the attack raised fresh concerns about the state’s security situation and the effectiveness of the surveillance aircraft reportedly acquired by the Makinde administration.

Sadare argued that the incident was particularly concerning because the attack reportedly lasted for more than an hour, yet there was no reported deployment of surveillance aircraft to monitor the attackers or assist security operatives in repelling the raid.

The party also questioned the whereabouts and operational status of the aircraft, noting that the reported attack occurred in the same area where the base station for the aircraft was said to be located.

In a statement, the APC said the development had raised questions about the administration’s claims regarding the surveillance aircraft.

The party stated that since Governor Makinde publicly announced the purported delivery of the two aircraft, there had been little evidence of their deployment for security surveillance in the state.

The APC further described the reported absence of aerial surveillance during the attack as an indication of what it called serious security lapses.

“Since the day Gov Makinde celebrated the purported delivery of the two aircraft, nothing has either been heard or felt about their deployment to survey the airspace in the state,” the party said.

It added that the reported attack on the Operation Burst base in Igbeti, despite allegedly lasting for over an hour, occurred without any apparent aerial surveillance to track the attackers or assist security personnel.

Based on the development, the APC described the claim surrounding the security surveillance aircraft as “another scam,” while calling for greater transparency and effectiveness in the state’s security arrangements.
