BREAKING: Adeleke’s Ally, Emir Laid To Rest As Police Recover Another Corpse

The remains of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade and an ally of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, have been laid to rest at his newly completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo.

The burial was conducted in accordance with traditional rites, with traditionalists, close family members and priests reportedly present during the proceedings.

According to reports, associates of the deceased who accompanied his remains from the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, were asked to remain outside the premises while the traditional burial rites were carried out.

The situation reportedly became tense when suspected associates of the deceased allegedly attacked two workers at the hospital morgue after discovering that they were recording the proceedings with their mobile phones. Additional police vehicles were subsequently deployed to the facility, helping to restore calm.

Emir, who was a chieftain of the Accord Party in Osun State, was reportedly shot dead on Sunday during a clash at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife involving him and a group led by another leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), popularly known as Sibi.

Governor Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed Emir’s death and directed the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to identify and arrest those responsible for the killing.

The incident has also been linked to reported moves by some members of the transport union to install Emir as the next chairman of the NURTW in Osun State.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of another corpse from the premises of the Mayfair Motor Park, bringing the number of people reportedly killed in the shooting to two.

The state police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Monday, adding that the recovered body had been deposited at a morgue.

Ojelabi also confirmed that Governor Adeleke had directed that the motor park remain closed following the incident. He said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The police spokesperson urged individuals being mentioned in connection with the incident to report themselves at the nearest police station instead of using social media to defend themselves.

He further stated that the Commissioner of Police had assured that everyone found to have played a role in the incident would be arrested and prosecuted, regardless of their status or identity.
