Tinubu Is Competent Enough” — APC PCC Speaks On Wike, Governors’ Clash

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the ongoing disagreement between APC governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the proposed Rainbow Coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to reports, APC PCC spokesman Ima Niboro made the call during an appearance on Arise News, saying the disagreement had the potential to extend beyond the immediate parties involved and affect political activities at the state and local government levels.

The dispute followed the rejection by APC governors of Wike’s proposed cross-party Rainbow Coalition. The governors have expressed concerns that supporting candidates from other political parties could weaken the APC and affect its candidates, while Wike has maintained that his support is specifically for Tinubu’s re-election and does not amount to support for the APC in other contests.

Niboro, however, noted that both sides were united in their stated support for Tinubu’s return to office in 2027, despite their differences over how that objective should be pursued.

“The ultimate beneficiary of this entire process is the President. The quarrel we are talking about is a quarrel that is trickling down to states and local government areas. But both camps agreed on re-electing the President,” he said.

He added that Tinubu, as the leader of the ruling party, has an interest in resolving the disagreement and maintaining peace among the various political interests supporting his re-election.

Niboro also described Tinubu as an experienced politician capable of managing disagreements within a large political coalition.

“If I were the President, for instance, you know, the President is an astute, very experienced politician, you cannot take that from him,” he said.

The APC campaign spokesman compared the situation to past developments within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), arguing that internal disagreements can become more pronounced as political parties and coalitions expand.

He recalled that the PDP, despite once being described by its leaders as a dominant political force, eventually experienced internal divisions and breakaways that contributed to changes in Nigeria’s political landscape.

“These are the issues that happen when you have big parties. It is inevitable. So, they have to be managed,” Niboro said.

He further stated that the disagreement should be handled through political dialogue rather than public exchanges.

“And we have a leader who I think is competent enough to manage these things, and he will. Take my word for it,” he added.

The comments came amid continued public exchanges between Wike and APC governors over the Rainbow Coalition. Wike has defended his political initiative, saying his objective is to mobilise support for Tinubu across party lines, while APC governors have maintained that they would not support arrangements they believe could undermine the party or its candidates.
