Although details regarding casualties are still emerging, eyewitnesses reported that one of the attacks commenced in the presence of traders at Eke Awka market. According to accounts from residents and passersby, the clash began when two tricycles were recklessly pursuing each other along Ziks Avenue, Eke Awka. Eventually, one of the tricycles became stuck in traffic, leading to a confrontation between the occupants. Gunshots were fired during the altercation, causing panic and chaos among bystanders.

One witness recounted the sequence of events, stating that the pursuit escalated into violence when one of the individuals involved was pursued into a mechanic workshop, dragged out, and fatally shot. The incident triggered pandemonium, with people fleeing in various directions to escape the violence.

However, the State Police Command has denied any knowledge of fatalities resulting from the incident. The spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the command had not received any reports of killings in connection with the clash.

This recent clash follows a similar incident that occurred the previous Sunday, on Easter day, during which at least six people were reportedly killed in the same area. The ongoing cult clashes are believed to be fueled by disputes over control of revenue generated from tricycle and shuttle bus operations, including ticket sales and emblems.

Security operatives and residents have expressed grave concerns over the escalating violence, which poses a significant threat to public safety. During an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State chapter, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Aderemi Adeoye, conveyed his apprehension regarding the situation. He highlighted the challenge of powerful individuals lobbying for the release of arrested cultists, who subsequently return to instigate further violence.

The situation underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts from both law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to address the root causes of the conflict and restore peace to the affected area.
