Initiated on January 9, the committee, chaired by Professor Jubrila Amin, was tasked with examining allegations of degree racketeering within both local and foreign private universities. Mamman emphasized the importance of working with relevant agencies to cleanse the education sector of any fraudulent practices.
The minister underscored the need to uphold standards within the education system, expressing concern over the possibility of individuals holding fake credentials occupying positions in various organizations. Mamman pledged decisive action to maintain the integrity of the education sector.
Highlighting the findings of the investigative committee, Mamman lamented the prevalence of fraudulent practices and called for urgent intervention. Amin, the committee chairman, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the urgent need for digitization and automation of education sector processes to curb fraudulent activities effectively.
Amin recommended that the National Universities Commission (NUC) scrutinize institutions offering part-time or sandwich programs, highlighting the inadequacies in the current accreditation and evaluation procedures for university results.
In conclusion, Mamman affirmed the ministry’s commitment to scrutinize certificates from suspect institutions and take appropriate action against individuals found with fraudulent credentials. The government’s resolve to uphold educational standards underscores its determination to safeguard the integrity of the nation’s academic credentials.
