Ribadu underscored the urgency of the matter, instructing all law enforcement agencies, regulators, businesses, and stakeholders in Nigeria to ensure the enforcement of the Cybercrimes Act. He emphasized that this directive emanated from the high-level African International Counter Terrorism Meeting held in Abuja between April 22 and 23, 2024.

During the conference, African leaders collectively advocated for enhanced support and resources to bolster cybersecurity measures across the continent. They also urged concrete actions to prevent terrorists and organized criminal groups from exploiting social media and other platforms.

Ribadu further disclosed that a levy of 0.5 per cent of the value of all electronic transactions by specified businesses outlined in the Second Schedule to the Cybercrimes Act would be imposed and credited to the National Cybercrime Fund. He assured that all obstacles hindering the full operationalization of the Cybercrimes law have been addressed.

In light of the imperative to secure Nigeria’s digital space and safeguard national security and economic interests, Ribadu stressed the necessity for all stakeholders to implement and enforce the Cybercrimes Act diligently. He reiterated that the recent amendments have resolved any barriers to the law’s full implementation.
