Following the incident on Sunday, President Bola Tinubu has not only ordered an investigation into the military air strike that resulted in the accidental death of at least 85 civilians in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State but has also directed prompt and comprehensive medical attention to the surviving victims. Additionally, President Tinubu expressed prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
This tragic event stands out as one of the deadliest military bombing accidents in the country. The army, acknowledging the incident, clarified that one of its drones, intended for armed groups, accidentally struck Tudun Biri village during Muslim festival celebrations. Although the army did not provide specific casualty figures, local residents reported that 85 individuals, including women and children, had lost their lives.
Describing the drone mission as routine, the army asserted that it inadvertently affected the community members. Nigeria’s armed forces frequently employ air strikes in their ongoing battle against so-called bandit militias, particularly in the northwest and northeast regions, where jihadist activities have persisted for over a decade.
