Originally inaugurated by former military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida on June 20, 1990, the airport’s renaming marks a significant moment for the region.

The agro-processing zone project encompasses approximately 2,000 hectares, with 1,000 hectares allocated for drip irrigation and greenhouses and another 1,000 hectares designated for dairy product processing.

According to reports, Niger State currently trades an average of half a million cattle daily to both local and international markets. The introduction of the agro-processing zone aims to streamline transportation processes and enhance the value chain within the agricultural sector.

Governor Bago highlighted the significance of the project, stating, “We are constructing about 140 kilometers of water irrigation channels to this place from Shiroro Dam. This project is an ambitious 50-year program, but the first phase will be finished in the next few years.”

Additionally, the project includes plans to bring 80 megawatts of power to the airport, contributing to its overall efficiency and sustainability.

During his visit, President Tinubu is expected to engage with former Heads of State Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, further solidifying relationships and discussing opportunities for collaboration.
