Tolu Arokodare Opens Up On Sh*ck Ajax Transfer

The 25-year-old striker officially joined Ajax on Wednesday and will wear the club’s iconic number 99 jersey during his stay in Amsterdam. The agreement also includes an option for Ajax to make the transfer permanent next summer in a deal reportedly valued at around £17 million.

Speaking after his unveiling, Arokodare described the move as a dream come true, saying he never imagined he would have the opportunity to play for one of Europe’s most decorated clubs.

He explained that although the Dutch Eredivisie is not widely followed in Nigeria, Ajax remains a globally recognised institution, making the opportunity impossible to ignore once he realised the interest was genuine.

Arokodare revealed that his immediate response after learning Ajax wanted him was a strong desire to complete the move, describing the Amsterdam-based club as the biggest in the Netherlands and one of the most prestigious in European football.

The forward joined Wolverhampton Wanderers from Belgian side Genk in a reported £24 million transfer last summer and scored six goals in 38 appearances during his debut campaign in England. However, uncertainty surrounded his future throughout the current transfer window, with Italian Serie A club Fiorentina among the teams linked with his signature.

His exit from Molineux follows weeks of speculation over his relationship with the club. Earlier reports claimed the striker refused to leave the training pitch after being informed he would no longer train with the first team, allegations he publicly denied on social media.

In confirming the loan transfer, Wolverhampton Wanderers noted that Arokodare had started only one of the club’s final 10 Premier League matches last season, signalling a reduced role before his departure.

The Nigerian striker will, however, have to wait before making his competitive debut for Ajax, as he has not been registered for the club’s UEFA Conference League second-leg fixture against FK Vojvodina, with the Dutch side holding a commanding 4-1 aggregate advantage heading into the encounter.
