Evangelist Adegboyega reportedly confronted the herdsmen who had allowed their cattle to graze on his crops, a move that infuriated the herdsmen. In a brutal retaliation, they attacked the pastor with a dagger, leaving him with stab wounds in about six places.

Swift action from vigilant villagers led to the apprehension of three suspects involved in the heinous crime. The captured individuals were promptly taken to the palace of the Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, and later handed over to the police for a thorough investigation.
