Troops Neutralize 7 Insurgents, Recover Weapons And Motorcycles In Kaduna

According to a statement issued by Lt-Col. Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations for the 1 Division Nigerian Army, the operation occurred on May 19 during a patrol along the Udawa-Kurebe road. Yahaya stated, “Troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army deployed at a blocking position at Udawa carried out a fighting patrol along Udawa-Kurebe road on May 19.”
During the aggressive patrol, troops encountered insurgents and terrorists, engaging them with heavy fire and neutralizing five of them. Recovered items included one pump-action gun, six cartridges, an empty AK-47 rifle magazine, an MP3 radio, a phone battery, two Baofeng radios with chargers, four memory cards, two SIM cards, and four charms.
Additionally, Yahaya reported that troops stationed at Sabo Birni in Igabi Local Government Area intercepted suspected terrorist movements in the Baka area on May 19. In the ensuing firefight, the terrorists fled to nearby hills, leaving behind one AK-47 rifle and two motorcycles, with bloodstains indicating gunshot wounds.
Furthermore, troops in Kwaga village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, made contact with terrorists, neutralizing two more and recovering two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and two motorcycles.
Maj-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, commended the troops for their aggressive stance. He urged them to maintain this momentum and continue to make life difficult for terrorists, insurgents, and violent extremists.
Saraso also appealed to law-abiding citizens to report anyone with gunshot wounds seeking medical attention to the Nigerian Army or nearest security agencies. Yahaya encouraged the people of Kaduna and Niger states to provide timely and actionable intelligence to the Army and other security agencies for prompt action.
