Trump revealed the decision on Truth Social, stating, “This morning I ordered precision military airstrikes on the Senior ISIS attack planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the strikes targeted ISIS operatives in the Golis mountains of Puntland, a semi-autonomous region in Somalia. Initial assessments indicate that several operatives were killed, with no civilian casualties reported.
Hegseth added, “This action further weakens ISIS’s ability to plan and execute terrorist attacks against US citizens, our allies, and innocent civilians, sending a clear message that the US is prepared to eliminate terrorists threatening our nation and its partners.”
Although ISIS has a smaller presence in Somalia compared to the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab, experts have expressed concerns about increasing activity.
Trump concluded his statement with a firm message: “The message to ISIS and all those who would attack Americans is clear: ‘WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!
