Bola Tinubu would make ambassadorial appointments when he deemed it appropriate.
He explained:
“Our 109 missions worldwide are fully operational, staffed by diplomats of various ranks and other officials such as immigration officers. The absence of ambassadors does not disrupt their work.”
Tuggar also clarified that Nigeria’s foreign policy remains rooted in the Constitution and not influenced by personal or political preferences.
“The foreign policy objectives are enshrined in the Constitution, prioritizing national interest, Africa’s unity, and international commitments. This transcends party manifestos or individual agendas,” he said.
On ECOWAS Challenges
Addressing recent tensions in ECOWAS—following the potential withdrawal of Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali—Tuggar reiterated Nigeria’s efforts to resolve the situation.
“These nations are vital to the bloc. While their withdrawal poses challenges, it does not signify the end of ECOWAS. We are actively working on solutions to these issues,” Tuggar stated.
UN Security Council Advocacy
On Nigeria’s push for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council, Tuggar expressed optimism, citing international support, including endorsement from the United States for Africa’s inclusion.
“Nigeria’s diplomatic efforts, in collaboration with other nations, have yielded positive responses. Advocacy remains strong,” he added.
