Two Weeks Of Relief Over! FAAN Resumes Gate Charges After Brief Suspension
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially resumed the collection of access gate fees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, starting from 8:30 a.m. on February 8, 2025. This decision follows a two-week suspension, initiated on January 24, due to disruptions caused by ongoing road construction within the airport premises……READ MORE
FAAN announced the resumption via a public notice signed by its management and shared through its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday. The authority expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and cooperation during the suspension period. The temporary halt was intended to facilitate smoother movement during the construction of the airport’s second runway.
With the reinstatement of the access gate fees, FAAN has assured travelers and motorists of improved traffic flow and easier access as construction progresses. The fees apply to all vehicles entering the airport premises, aligning with a Federal Executive Council (FEC) policy introduced in May 2024. This policy mandates toll payments at all federal airports, including by high-ranking officials like the President and Vice President, to standardize toll collection and boost airport infrastructure funding.
To streamline the process, FAAN introduced E-tags in May 2024, allowing motorists year-long access to all 24 federal airports in Nigeria. Motorists without E-tags are required to pay cash at the gates, a move aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing congestion at toll points.
The two-week suspension of access fees at the Abuja airport provided relief to travelers, airport staff, and transport operators affected by the construction. However, with the suspension period now over, all visitors to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport are required to pay the tolls in accordance with FAAN’s nationwide toll policy.
