UNIMAID Student Arrested For Assaulting Female Colleague Over Rejected Love Proposal

The incident, which took place on Monday, February 26, 2024, around 8:30 pm, resulted from Ngala’s rejection of Ibrahim’s persistent romantic overtures, according to Zagazola Makama, a renowned counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, who disclosed the details of the incident on Friday.

Despite Ngala’s clear disinterest and attempts to distance herself from Ibrahim’s advances, he allegedly intensified his efforts, even threatening her with dire consequences if she did not reciprocate his feelings, reportedly stating, “I can even kill you, and nothing will happen.”

The situation escalated into violence when Ibrahim physically attacked Ngala with a club, striking her multiple times until she lost consciousness, simply because she refused to enter a relationship with him.

After the assault, Ibrahim fled the scene, leaving Ngala in a critical condition. However, with the timely intervention of Ngala’s relatives, she survived the ordeal and received urgent medical attention after the incident was reported to the police the same night.

Responding swiftly to the report, civilian volunteers from the Joint Task Force (JTF) apprehended Ibrahim and handed him over to the authorities at the Gomari Division Office.

As the case undergoes police investigation, there have been calls for stringent action against the perpetrator to deter similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the University of Maiduguri and the College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri, have yet to issue official statements regarding the incident.
