The recovery of extensive weapon caches, including 1,802 AK47 rifles, underscores the military’s strategy of targeting leadership structures.

However, despite these successes, the continuation of extremist groups suggests that military actions alone cannot eradicate the root causes of insecurity. In the North Central, Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke have been pivotal in addressing farmer-herder conflicts, with 1,047 violent extremists neutralized and over 3,000 suspects arrested. Yet, the persistence of these conflicts demands a balanced approach, integrating political and social solutions.

In the North West, Operations Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch have been effective in neutralizing 3,648 terrorists and rescuing over 3,000 hostages. Yet, the emergence of new criminal leaders indicates the need for deeper socio-economic reforms. The recovery of 1,450 AK47 rifles further highlights the scale of arms proliferation, necessitating stricter control measures.

In the South South, Operation Delta Safe has made commendable progress in curbing crude oil theft, with over 56 million litres of stolen crude oil prevented and the destruction of 2,612 illegal refining sites. However, economic sabotage remains a significant challenge, requiring more than military intervention.

The South East continues to face challenges with separatist agitations. Operation Udo Ka has successfully neutralized 734 terrorists and arrested 974 suspects, yet the militarisation of political grievances calls for both security and political responses.

As we reflect on these operations, it becomes clear that while impressive figures show the military’s capability, a multi-faceted approach is essential. Strengthening local governance, fostering economic development, and addressing social issues are critical to achieving sustainable peace.
