Although Russian authorities have yet to respond to the notice, the embassy cautioned American citizens to steer clear of crowded areas.
According to RT, the embassy stated, “The embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and US citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours.”
The embassy urged Americans to remain vigilant and to keep an eye on local media for updates. However, no further details were provided regarding the alert.
This warning comes amidst escalating tensions between Moscow and Washington. On Thursday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned American ambassador Lynne Tracy, insisting that the embassy sever all connections with three US-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) recently banned in Russia.
Furthermore, the Foreign Ministry warned of potential expulsion of “any US Embassy employees” found engaging in activities deemed as interference in Russia’s internal affairs, including subversive campaigns and dissemination of misinformation. These warnings come in the backdrop of the conflict in Ukraine and the upcoming presidential election in Russia.
