The abduction occurred Thursday morning shortly after the morning assembly, with residents fleeing as the assailants fired indiscriminately. Among the victims were reported to be the headteacher of the school and several staff members.

During his visit to Kuriga, Governor Sani expressed his deep concern and assured families of the kidnapped children of the government’s commitment to reuniting them with their loved ones safely.

Moreover, the Governor disclosed that he had engaged with National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the First Division of the Nigerian Army, receiving assurances of full cooperation from federal security agencies in the rescue operation and restoration of normalcy to the affected community.

In his statement, Governor Sani said, “I have briefed Mr. President and the National Security Adviser on the Kuriga situation. I received strong assurances from them that all measures are being taken to bring back the pupils and students.”

He further outlined plans to establish a Security Committee within Kuriga, comprising stakeholders from the community, security agencies, and the state government. Additionally, he pledged to advocate for the establishment of a military base in Kuriga to bolster security efforts in the area.

The incident, Governor Sani emphasized, underscores the need for the establishment of state police, which would provide a dedicated and locally attuned security force capable of effectively addressing such challenges.
