never fulfilled.
After staging a protest on December 6, 2024, where they set up tents and mattresses at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja, the retirees were finally given the green light. Their demands included overdue palliative payments, a 20-28% salary increment from January to November 2024, and several other allowances.
The long-awaited relief came after the Ministry confirmed that the retirees have started receiving their payments, bringing some peace to their ongoing fight for justice. The Minister of Defence, Bello Matawalle, also praised the government’s efforts, assuring that pension arrears and military personnel salary increases will continue to be prioritized.
In the aftermath of their successful protest, retirees are now celebrating the first steps toward fulfilling their long-overdue benefits.
