This figure, covering January to October, comes after the House of Representatives called for a new system that would ensure 5% of the national budget be dedicated to the legislature and judiciary. The proposed amendment to Nigeria’s Fiscal Responsibility Act would guarantee a consistent, robust financial flow to these key government institutions.

In 2024, the National Assembly saw a significant rise in its budgetary allocation, increasing from N197.93 billion to a record-breaking N344.85 billion. The NJC’s share was also significantly boosted, jumping from N165 billion to N341.63 billion.

Detailed figures show that between January and October 2024, the National Assembly received N308 billion, including additional funds for capital projects, while the NJC was allocated N256 billion. This substantial financial support ensures that both branches can maintain their operations independently, further reinforcing the importance of these institutions in Nigeria’s governance.
