In a media engagement in Abuja, Aduloju emphasized the bills’ historic significance in addressing tax challenges, particularly by protecting the poor from unnecessary taxation. “We support these bills 100% because our analysis backs them,” he declared, highlighting that they are the first to explicitly exempt the working poor from tax obligations.

Aduloju commended the debate the bills have sparked, noting that it has led to a much-needed national conversation about production, revenue generation, and fiscal sustainability. He urged lawmakers to continue the process openly and inclusively, ensuring input from all regions and technical committees.

While acknowledging that some opposition stems from geopolitical concerns, Aduloju maintained that lawmakers should focus on the bills’ merits. He pointed to key benefits, such as broadening the tax base, improving tax collection systems, and introducing mechanisms for tax justice.

He also pushed for VAT refunds under the new framework and called for a shift away from the proliferation of nuisance taxes.
