Rufai Oseni Slams Makinde Over Call For Investigation After Victims’ Return

According to Ireporter Online, Makinde had recently called on the United Nations to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident after receiving the rescued victims from security operatives.

The governor had also raised concerns that the abduction could be connected to his political ambition, pointing out that the incident occurred shortly after he declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The statement, however, attracted reactions from some officials of the Federal Government and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who argued that Nigeria has the capacity and sovereignty to address its internal security challenges without external intervention.

Reacting to the controversy during a programme on ARISE Television’s Morning Show, Oseni described the disagreement between the governor and the Federal Government as an unnecessary blame game.

The journalist stated that attention should be shifted towards addressing security challenges and preventing future occurrences rather than engaging in political exchanges.

Oseni questioned the purpose of the proposed investigation, noting that the victims had already been rescued and reunited with their families.

He argued that while investigations are important in security matters, the priority should be finding practical solutions to protect citizens and strengthen security measures.

The broadcaster also referenced previous security concerns in Oyo State, questioning the relevance of linking the latest incident solely to Makinde’s presidential ambition.

Oseni maintained that political leaders should focus on collective efforts to tackle insecurity rather than trading accusations after incidents have occurred.
