According to Ireporter Online, the exchange rate of the United States dollar against the Nigerian naira has recorded a new update in the parallel market, popularly known as the black market, as of Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Checks from Bureau De Change (BDC) operators in Lagos revealed that traders were selling one US dollar for ₦1,430, while the buying rate stood at ₦1,415.

The latest figures indicate continued differences between the official foreign exchange market and the parallel market, where many individuals and businesses often monitor currency movements.

At the official window, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) exchange rate showed the dollar trading within a lower range, with the highest rate recorded at ₦1,364 and the lowest rate at ₦1,361.

The CBN does not recognise the parallel market as an official forex channel and has continued to advise Nigerians seeking foreign exchange services to use authorised financial institutions.

Forex dealers have, however, noted that actual buying and selling prices may vary depending on location, market conditions and the individual Bureau De Change operator involved.

Market analysts continue to monitor developments in the foreign exchange sector as fluctuations in the dollar-naira rate remain a key factor affecting businesses, importers and consumers across the country.
