Joshua vs Fury Finally Set For New York Showdown

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s long-awaited heavyweight showdown could finally become a reality, with New York’s Madison Square Garden emerging as the frontrunner to host the blockbuster contest amid ongoing negotiations.

According to Ireporter Online, discussions surrounding the highly anticipated bout have gathered momentum, with reports indicating that streaming giant Netflix is driving plans to stage the event in the United States instead of the United Kingdom. The proposed arrangement reportedly favours a Friday night schedule, with November 20 being considered as a possible date to avoid clashes with major American college football fixtures.

The contest is expected to generate a purse exceeding £100 million, making it one of the biggest boxing events in recent history.

Renewed optimism over the fight followed both boxers’ return to winning ways in July. Fury, 37, secured a stoppage victory over Mariusz Wach in Thailand, while Joshua, 36, recovered from two early knockdowns before defeating Kristian Prenga in Jeddah.

Despite the growing speculation surrounding an American venue, Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has maintained that the former world champion’s existing contract stipulates that the fight should be staged in the United Kingdom. However, reports suggest that Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh, who has played a major role in facilitating negotiations, is backing a US venue to maximise the global television audience.

The possibility of moving the highly anticipated “Battle of Britain” away from home has sparked criticism among boxing fans, many of whom believe Wembley Stadium should host a contest of such magnitude rather than Madison Square Garden.

Sports journalist Chris Mannix also suggested that taking the event overseas would disappoint British supporters, arguing that financial considerations appear to be driving the decision.

Adding to the anticipation, Joshua’s former training partner, Richard Riakporhe, disclosed that the former heavyweight champion has spent several years preparing, both physically and mentally, for a potential clash with Fury after previous attempts to arrange the fight failed.

While negotiations remain active, organisers have yet to officially confirm either the venue or the date for what promises to be one of the biggest heavyweight fights in modern boxing.
