IGP Disu Gives Fresh Order To Rescue Abducted Worshippers

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed security operatives in Niger State to intensify efforts aimed at rescuing worshippers abducted during an attack on communities in the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.

Disu gave the directive on Saturday during a working visit to Niger State, where he assessed the security situation and reviewed ongoing operations to locate the abducted victims and secure their safe release.

Ireporter Online reports that the IGP also conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the Niger State Government, affected communities and the families of the victims.

He assured the families and residents that the safe recovery of the abducted worshippers and the arrest of those responsible for the attack remain key priorities for the police.

The IGP was received at the Niger State Government House by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago. The Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Magaji, was also present during the visit.

Disu commended the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, for the command’s response to the incident and the prompt submission of situation reports to the appropriate authorities.

He also acknowledged the Niger State Government’s continued support for the police, particularly through the provision of operational vehicles, rehabilitation of Armoured Personnel Carriers and measures aimed at improving the welfare of police personnel.

While addressing officers and men of the Niger State Police Command, the IGP ordered them to maintain intelligence-driven and professionally coordinated operations focused on rescuing the victims and preventing further attacks on vulnerable communities.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, Disu emphasised that the safety of the abducted worshippers and residents must remain central to every decision and action taken during the rescue efforts.

The IGP assured the state command of continued assistance from Force Headquarters, particularly in the areas of logistics, mobility, intelligence gathering, training and other operational requirements.

He further directed the police command to strengthen cooperation with other security agencies and deepen engagement with communities across the state.

Disu stressed that closer collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders would be essential for obtaining timely and reliable intelligence capable of preventing attacks and facilitating the speedy rescue of victims.

In his remarks, Deputy Governor Garba commended the IGP for personally visiting the state to evaluate the security situation and support ongoing efforts to secure the release of the abducted worshippers.

He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to working with the police and other security agencies to protect residents, restore peace and secure the safe return of the victims.

During the visit, Disu also met with the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Dr Umar Farouk Bahago, where he expressed condolences to the emirate over the incident and called for stronger cooperation between traditional institutions and security agencies.

The discussions focused on improving intelligence gathering, strengthening community engagement and developing strategies to promote lasting peace and security across Niger State.

The police reiterated that operations to rescue the abducted worshippers, protect vulnerable communities and apprehend those behind the attack would continue until the objectives are achieved.
