Nigeria internationals Semi Ajayi and Taiwo Awoniyi were both in action as Hull City maintained their perfect start to their Premier League return with a 1-0 victory over Coventry City on Saturday, August 29.

According to Ireporter Online, Ajayi played the entire 90 minutes for Hull City, while Awoniyi also featured for the full duration of the encounter at the Coventry Building Society Arena. Their fellow Nigerian, Frank Onyeka, was unavailable for Coventry after picking up a knock.

Hull City entered the fixture in confident mood following their impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United in their opening Premier League match. Ajayi was among the scorers in that memorable win, netting Hull’s first league goal of the campaign.

The Super Eagles defender once again produced a solid display at the back as Hull recorded another clean sheet and secured maximum points from their opening two matches. The result moved the newly promoted side into second place in the Premier League standings with six points.

Coventry, meanwhile, struggled to turn their possession into meaningful attacking opportunities after losing their opening fixture 3-0 to reigning champions Arsenal.

Awoniyi came closest to breaking the deadlock for the hosts in the first half when he failed to make clean contact with a deflected cross from Loum Tchaouna. Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis reacted quickly to prevent the effort from finding the back of the net.

Despite Coventry controlling possession for significant periods, Hull remained organised and held on to claim another important victory, further underlining their impressive start to life back in the Premier League.
