Senate Rejects Probe Into Alleged Fake Agency, PFIPC

According to Ireporter Online, the motion was presented during Wednesday’s plenary by Senator Suleiman Kawu, representing Kano South Senatorial District, under matters of urgent public importance.

However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio ruled against the request, stating that the matter had already progressed beyond legislative intervention. He noted that Adeyemi has been charged before a court, making the issue sub judice, while President Bola Tinubu has already directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the allegations.

Akpabio maintained that launching a separate Senate investigation at this stage could interfere with the ongoing judicial and executive processes, stressing that the suspect is already facing prosecution and that the Presidency has initiated an official probe.

Despite the ruling, Senator Kawu insisted that the National Assembly retains its constitutional oversight responsibilities and should not be prevented from conducting its own investigation simply because the executive branch has taken action.

The Senate’s decision comes shortly after a Federal High Court ordered the arrest of Adeyemi for failing to appear for his arraignment over an eight-count charge involving alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation.

Justice Umar directed security agencies to apprehend Adeyemi and produce him before the court on September 30.

Court documents allege that Adeyemi forged an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and allegedly signed by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. He is further accused of fabricating official presidential documents, falsely claiming to be the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, and using the alleged forged documents to seek office accommodation from the State House.
